[2020. 02. 18 ] HGU Holds a Capacity Building Program for Instructors at Rwanda Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC) 2021-04-20

As part of the UNESCO UNITWIN project, Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) held a 4th Industrial Revolution and Capacity Building Program on the subject of Artificial Intelligence at the GISHARI Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC GISHARI) in Rwanda on the 12th of February.

Three professors (Beom-ha Ji, Young-jin Kim, and Doo-hee Jung) from Handong Global University's Department of Management & Economics and Global Entrepreneurship and ICT participated in the Rwanda Capacity Building Program. Additionally, 61 instructors from the eight technology training centers under Rwanda Polytech were able to learn in-depth of the recent years’ technology and improved productivity of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Artificial Intelligence and Convergence Technologies, etc.

"We experienced the filling of our deficiencies and weaknesses through Handong Global University's next-generation entrepreneurship training program of 2019," said James Gacheumba, the President of Rwanda Polytech.  He also said, “In particular, Capacity Building Program of Handong University provided us with a broader perspective and a more hopeful vision.” In addition, he said, "We will continue to maintain a lasting partnership with Handong Global University so that Rwandan members can learn entrepreneurship and actually implement it in society."

Handong Global University also discussed and shared details with seven working-level officials, including President of Rwanda Polytechnic James Gacheumba, Alex Luber and Vice President of Finance and Public Administration, about the overall implementation plan on next-generation entrepreneurship training to be held in the Summer of 2020 and firmly established its commitment to the strengthening of entrepreneurship capacity in Rwanda.

 

In addition, Handong Global University discussed holding a 10-day short-term concentration camp on ICT, AI, and Entrepreneurship with three officials including Rwanda University’s President of Science and Technology Science Department Ignas Gattare, and announced a curriculum that can lead to actual start-ups by promoting enhanced computing and entrepreneurship capabilities of students at Rwanda.

 

"When the next generation entrepreneurship training in Rwanda was held in 2018, we felt their passion and willingness to change the world, experiencing the unlimited potential of Rwanda," said Beom-Ha Ji, a professor of Handong Global University, the program's general manager. He added, "Through Rwanda`s next-generation entrepreneurship training program, we will try to foster a wider perspective, creative mindset, and talent that will change the world beyond Rwanda."

 

The UNESCO UNITWIN project at Handong Global University signed a MOU with Rwanda University on August 14, 2018, with the aim of supporting the development of entrepreneurs' management education courses in Rwanda and revitalizing start-ups needed for economic development along with the project to build EDCF Rwanda National University by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. In addition, from August 14th to 23rd of last year, the next generation entrepreneurship training was discussed to be held once a year for about 200 professors and students at Rwanda University, and at the Institute of Technology and Training. Handong Global University plans to continue cooperating to strengthen Rwanda's capacity for higher education and build-up future talent.

 

*UNESCO UNITWIN (University Twinning, and Networking) is a program founded by UNESCO in 1992 to support universities in developing countries through a network with universities in developed countries to reduce the knowledge gap and foster self-reliance in developing countries. In South Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN sponsored university in 2007.
