[UNITWIN] Handong Global University Holds Next-Generation Entrepreneurship Program in Indonesia 2023-02-07

Handong Global University (President Do-Soung Choi) held the Next-Generation Entrepreneurship Training in cooperation with Jakarta International University at Handong-ASEAN Start-up & Innovation Center in Indonesia from November 21st to 25th as part of the UNESCO UNITWIN project.

This event was attended by about 90 professors and students from Jakarta International University, and 4 professors (Beom Ha Ji, Yi Soo Jo, Sang Hwa Lee, and Doo He Jeong) from Handong Global University’s School of Management and Economics and ICT Entrepreneurship, Professor Hyeong Jae Lee of Kookmin University, and Professor Se Joong Kim from Hallym University participated as lecturers and provided training on △ entrepreneurship △ design thinking △ finance/accounting △marketing △business model development △business plan writing for 5 days.

In particular, the ‘Boe-Joe Coffee’ team, the first-place team of the Jakarta International University Startup Idea Competition hosted by Handong Global University in 2020, actually succeeded in starting a cafe and announced the case to help the entrepreneurship, raising the mood for entrepreneurship and start-up.  

Agus Hartadi, President of Jakarta International University, said, “Entrepreneurship is an important growth engine that can create qualifying jobs for young people in Indonesia, where the industry is developing at a rapid pace. Jakarta International University needed professional entrepreneurship education and practical education in accordance with this demand for national education. We hope that this training will serve as a stepping stone for the industrial development of our home country.”

Natania Herina Karnadi, a student who participated in the event, said, “ Through the next generation entrepreneurship training, I learned about startup basic knowledge and entrepreneurship, as well as problem-solving skills and cooperation by working as a group to solve Indonesian social problems through business.”

Meanwhile, the team that won the final business plan announcement contest will be provided with investment opportunities from local angel investors in Indonesia and will be incubated so that they can lead to actual start-ups.

UNITWIN (UNIversity TWInning and Networking) is a program created by UNESCO in 1992 to help universities in developing countries reduce knowledge gaps and develop their independence through networks with universities in developed countries. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN-hosted university in 2007.

In addition, Handong Global University provides educational internationalization through designation of the first OECD intern dispatched university (2008), designation of UN Academic Impact university (2011), designation of UN depository library operating university (2014), UN NGO conference hosting university (2016), and opening of UNAI Ban Ki Moon Global Education Center (2019).
